He's baaaack!

A lot has changed since our last update.  Charlie has continued to amaze us with how much he's growing, learning and running - ALL THE TIME!  He is really really fast and does not like to walk, only run:)  From the last update Charlie has really went from baby Charlie to toddler Charlie.  I'm sure many of you have followed our posts on Facebook and have watched him grow, but we are truly amazed at the transformation from almost 2 years ago when he surprised us very early.

We had our routine NICU follow-up this summer and Charlie did great.  Health wise, there are no real concerns at this point.  He is about 50th percentile for weight (which I still am shocked by!) and around 15th percentile for height.  These are both measurements on the "full term" baby chart, which is even more awesome!  There are some developmental delays that we are addressing with therapy at our house.  We see a Speech and Occupational therapist once a week and are decreasing our sessions with our Physcial Therapist (since he's very mobile!).  There has been a lot of improvement for Charlie, but still some areas to continue to work on.

One update that many of you didn't know was that we were expecting a second baby.  Our due date would have been today, but due to complications we lost her at 21 weeks in May.  We named her Sloane Stevenson Terhune:)  We experienced the same complications (extreme growth restrictions IUGR) as with Charlie, but this time they were much worse and earlier on.  Since our loss, I took a leave from work and ultimately decided to stay home full time with Charlie.  So far, this transition has been just what our family needed!  I am so lucky to have this opportunity to stay home with Charlie and hopefully help with his development and give him countless hugs and kisses each day.  I am, however, failing at keeping a clean house and preparing dinner for our family:)  Chuck and I still want to grow our family and are currently in the very beginning stages of adoption.  Similar to Charlie, his next brother or sister will have an extraordinary story on how they came to our family.

As usual, below are some pics highlighting our year so far.  Stay tuned for some "western" themed photos next month for Charlie's 2nd Birthday!

Great Grandma Jean and Charlie

Our visit to the zoo.  Charlie really likes the monkeys - OOOH OOOH!

The first visit to the dolphin show was a success!  A very happy Charlie.
Our second was a big fail:(  A very angry Charlie (sorry no pics of him screaming)

Part of our Easter photo shoot.  How cute is he in his bow tie!

Charlie's first visit to see Great Grandma Maude.
He was quite a crowd pleaser at the retirement home.

Our impromptu Easter egg hunt.  A few plastic eggs, gold fish and a golf club.  He's easily amused.

Our second annual March for Babies walk!  Thanks to your support

A few family pics from Sidney's graduation.  Congrats Sid!!!!

Our visit to Des Moines.  Grandma Chris was so happy to show off Charlie!

Two cute Chuck's.

Our visit to Minneapolis for the 4th.  We are so patriot, kind of like the Kennedy's.

One of Charlie's girlfriends, Piper.

Tried to get a few pics for Grandma Wendi for her birthday...

BFF's

We had a great visit from Macy and Megan this summer!  So great to see them both and have the two little ones finally meet.

Charlie's first car show in Riverside.
I'm still surprised Grandpa Joe left without buying Charlie a car??!

Another trip to the zoo with the whole Laughlin clan.
I think the animals were hiding from us that day.

Thanks again for following our latest updates!

I wanted to end with something that a dear friend made for us.
Such a great saying that I can enjoy each day.  Thanks Maggie:)
