Bubble Boy!

Similar to John Travolta in the 70's movie, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Charlie was enclosed in a similar apparatus on Monday.  Sunday afternoon Charlie's oxygen level was brought down to 1% but was having quite a bit of difficulty sustaining that level.  He was later bumped up to 2% - where he had been previously.  We were surprised to find him Tuesday morning, nasal canula-less, clothed and swaddled!!!!  The doctors decided to remove his canula all together and see how he would react.  At first he was ok, but ended up having some difficulty.  Since his nose was really irritated from the canula, they decided to use an apparatus that was a little old fashioned:)  It was some sort of oxygen hood that they placed around him.  This have him the little humidified air that he still needed.  And it was also a great photo op for me!!!

Check out Charlie's first tent!

Charlie was also able to wear clothes - which obviously made me happy beyond belief!  He was wearing NICU "borrowed" clothes for the day, but luckily I had purchased every single preemie item Carter's made, so he would soon have a full wardrobe at his disposal.  At a certain gestational age, preemies are able to try and maintain their own temperature.  I guess Charlie had reached that and the doctors decided to bring down the temp in his isolette and layer on his clothes.  We were also able to hold him like a "big baby", swaddled up and extra snuggly:)

The bear hat was a little big:)

Charlie may seem to be getting pretty big, but compare to Daddy's giant hands:)

Enough of the pictures, PLEASE!

Charlie & His Favorite Friend

Yesterday was an exciting day when the nurse gave us the ok for my mom to hold Charlie.  I secretly asked the nurse if this would be ok and agreed Charlie had progressed enough for Grandma Wendi to hold the little guy!  I was so excited to surprise my mom with this news.  She has helped Chuck and I so much over the past few months, I was so excited to give her this little gift:)

Grandma Wendi has been a faithful hospital visitor, bag holder, housecleaner, "Sarah calm down"er, picture taker and is now Charlie's favorite new friend!

WE LOVE YOU GRAMMY!!!!!!

XOXO

Happy 1 Month Charlie Boy!

Charlie turned 1 month this week!  Time has seriously flown by.  Overall, he had a really good week.  He finished up his antibiotics and continued increasing his feedings this week.  As of today, he is 2 lbs 12 oz - we are thrilled:)  They attempted to bring his oxygen support down to 1, but he was having a little difficulty with that setting.  After a few hours, he was brought back up to 2 and was doing much better.  Hopefully this week he can conquer his breathing and be off the nose canula all together.  We are all so proud of our favorite little guy:)
Charlie and his ties - thanks Aunt Colleen!

Doing great at using his pacifier - eventhough it's purple:)

We are so lucky to have the end/window unit in th NICU, but sometimes
Charlie has to squint and cover his eyes!

Aunt Mare Bear stopped by for a visit!

Almost filling out his teeny hat!

Erin came by this week as well!  Charlie just loves all his lady friends:)

Daddy and Charlie - xoxo!

More GIRLS!  Kristin and Angela filled Charlie in on all the Hyatt gossip.
He was tired of the yapping quickly:)
